Greek Research and Technology Network (GRNET S.A. <\/span><\/span>http:\/\/www.grnet.gr<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>) is a state\u2013owned company, operating under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Education \u2013 General Secretariat for Research and Technology.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Its mission is to provide high\u2013quality e-Infrastructure services to the academic, research and educational community of Greece; and link these with global e-Infrastructures; and to disseminate ICT to the general public. GRNET is the main IT enabler for big science as well as long-tail science in Greece, and core player in international activities. It is one of the core participants in the European Grid Initiative and the related EGI-InSPIRE project, where it operates a number of pan-European core services and management services for scientific computing; while in EGEE (Enabling Grids for E SciencE) projects series it also ran the Regional Operations Centre for South\u2013East Europe. GRNET is strongly involved in pan\u2013European High-Performance Computing (HPC) initiatives: it is a core member of PRACE project series (non\u2013hosting partner) and has coordinated HP\u2013SEE project (High\u2013Performance Computing Infrastructure for South East Europe\u2019s Research Communities), which established the HPC infrastructure in South East Europe. GRNET is currently procuring the Greek national HPC Tier\u20131 centre in the order of 180 TFlops and large associated storage. Together with inclusive AAI and Persistent Data Identification services, the computing and storage platforms of GRNET form the backbone for the upcoming big data manipulations (archiving, mirroring, curation, computing, sharing) across the R&E and eGov spectrum.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
